Need serious advice from all of you volvo veterans 200 1989

Alright...
Well when i was 16 years old I bought my first car and it is a 1989 240 GL. I am now 20 and the car isnt working as good as it used to. I dont know very much about fixing cars, and i really want to start doing as much as i possibly can myself, when it comes to fixing the problems in it. What are some good ways for me to learn more about volvo's and how to work on them? You know...like how to spot what problems might exist, how to fix them, etc. the car is currently not running and just sitting in my driveway. I really dont want to go to a volvo repair shop, and get robbed of all my money (because I dont have much of it anyway), and i am really interested in being able to work on my own car. I really love that car, and i dont want to drive anything else. Please help me out!
