Need specifics on clutch cable adjustment 200 1984

I am having a problem getting into first gear from a stop on an 84' 242 turbo, I believe this means that I need a clutch cable adjustment due to a stretched cable that is not pulling far enough.

I believe that I have the stock Volvo cable with the metal sheath and rubber adjuster nut.

From underneath the car on the engine side of where the cable attaches to the bellhousing which direction should I turn the nut? Right to tighten or left to loosen. Do I what more of the cable sheath to show on the engine side or less? Currently there is about an inch and a half of sheath showing on the engine side.

Thanks

Greg Normington
