VERY LOUD MAIN FUEL PUMP, BUT IN-TANK PUMP IS OK 200 1984

I've been trying to find out why my main fuel pump is making loud noises. Especially since it was replaced about two weeks ago after dying on me in a snowstorm in New England. Here's what I know: the in-tank pump works and the filter sock is clean, the hose leading to the main pump is clear, the fuel filter is new, the relays work fine. The main pump is especially loud now that the level in the tank has dropped. The mechanic did tell me that the small hose between the main pump and the fuel filter seemed a little kinked but it had been running fine up until this point. I'll check that in the morning, but if anybody has any other suggestions I would be very grateful. I don't want to buy another pump!
