Was under my 79 264GL today when I noticed the smell of gas while I was near the fuel accumulator. I cleaned up the area with carb cleaner to see if there were any leaks but found none. Not satisfied with my results I powered up the fuses for the in-tank pump and noticed that a small amount of fuel was leaking out of the accumulator. I wondered if there was some sort of vent or pee hole built into the accumulator to advise you of any failure inside the accumulator or to release pressure. Maybe it is time to just replace the accumulator with another one.
This brings me to my question. Are the accumulators in the 240's compatible with those of the 260's? I checked through the archives and it mentioned something about a change to the accumulator to a dual ??? after 80/81+.
I also want to state that when I ran the pump(s) I only heard the in-tank pump working and not the main fuel pump next to the accumulator. I'm thinking that maybe that is why a little fuel leaked out since the main pump allowed too much pressure to build up so the accumulator released it out a pee hole. Again this is a total guess but I would be grateful for any input to why I have a leaking accumulator and what my best choices for a replacement are. Thanks to all for their time and advice in advance.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE!!!
Sincerely,
