As I rule out other possible sources of my erratic ignition failure, my next project is testing and probably replacing the coil. According to Bentley, the resistance between the primary and secondary coils should be 1.1 to 1.3 ohms; mine tested at 1.9. The resistance between the primary coil (terminal 1 or -) and the center tower should be 9600 to 11600. Mine tested below 9000 if I know what the center tower is. Is that the connection where the wire from the coil to the distributor connects?
NOw the strange thing: I just bought a replacement; it tests the same as the old one: 1.9 ohms between 1 and 15; about 8.7 k ohms between 1 and the connection for the distributor wire. Does this mean (a) my ohmmeter (actually a multimeter) is wrong; (b) both the old coil and the new one are wrong; or (c) I've misinterpreted my Bentley; or (d) God forbid, Bentley is wrong?
