M47 Rear Seal 200 1988

I'm in the middle of doing the clutch on my 88 244 and I want to change out the rear seal on the M47. How does the flange come off of the output shaft? Is it splined? I wrenched on a puller for a while but chickened out.

Also, if the puller will work, how does it go back on? I'm a little afraid of damaging internal parts (bearings, etc)
