how far should backing plate on starter be? pic inside 700

anyone out there have a starter out of a b230 motor? or well can anyone tell me if the backing plate in the starter that the gear sits on should be this far forward or not??

reason i ask is because i just swaped out my 91 b230ft motor for a 94 b230ft and i am trying to use the flywheel off my 91 car and the starter and for some reason its hitting or well when u turn the motor over by hand it hits, yet before i pulled the other motor it didn't hit. so is something wrong? or is my starter just busted?
