worn out shift linkage - how to fix? 200 1989

'89 240 375,000 km manual transmission

I've adjusted the reverse lockout plate as far as it will go, now the linkage has worn to the point where it is a real problem to find first gear, second is not much better.

I'm going to do the clutch as soon as it warms up. While the tranny is out I want to replace the worn shifter parts.

Can anyone tell me what needs to be done? Do I need to go into the gearbox or is this accessible from outside?

Arthur
