turbo indicator 700 1988

I own a 760 turbo (1988) and I was wondering what the normal range is on the turbo guage. It is 1/2 black and 1/2 white. The car normally runs in the middle most of the time. If I accelerate hard it goes a little into the white, but nor much. Thanks for the responses ahead of time.
