Hi all, well I just bought my first Volvo (as a second car). It is an 1986 Volvo 740 turbo w/automatic (not wagon). I bought it of a doctor who bought it new. He was anal about oil changes and keeping it covered and the interior is incredible as is the paint (car comes from San Diego). It has 160,000 miles on it. I recently took it to a shop and had new belts, ball joints, timing belt and harmonic balancer put on. The car is great but I heard (after I bought the car) that early model 1986's were not good for some reason. Anyone know if this was a good buy? I paid only $1500 and everything works fine. They adjusted the valves and said everything under the valve cover was sparkling, so they know it has had great maintenence. It does idle kind of rough but I think this is normal. Also, when slowing to a stop there is a clunk noise. I thought it might me a U joint but the shop told me they were ok. I dont plan on puting a lot of money into the car, just keeping it clean and reliable. My main question is (assuming it has been well maintained) is this a good car? Thanks ahead of time. Joe.
