I own a 740 gl 1990. RPM do not drop relatively to the shifting. I have Autonmatic Transmision. Realy low / 14MPG. Because enigne still idle around 2300RPM and act like spedometer. I feel the diffrence of my 88/760 Turbo and this 90/740GL. You know how it drops(RPM) right after shifting ? Engine tempreure sensor out though.
