Today I went back to the shop/salvage yard where I bought the 544 B18 donor car for my 444 project - this time looking for a B20. Fifteen feet from where the 544 had rested in peace since 1988 was a well dented 142. It has a B20F and the odometer says 065,253. The shop owner says it was running when he bought the car years ago. He is asking $100 if I pull the engine myself.
The 142 is an automatic and is tucked away under a huge air conditioning compressor. From looking in archives I am thinking that the automatic will not be a problem - that I can remove the automatic flywheel and use my B18 flywheel, clutch and bellhousing on this engine. Am I getting the right message......there was something about 6 bolt versus 8 bolt flywheels?
I sure hope this works out because, just as most of you suggested, it may be that this way I can wind up with a better engine at MUCH less cost than I was looking at to totally rebuild the abused B18. You guys are great!
