740 trim piece, aftermarket? 700

I just acquired a 1987 745ti. On all the doors, from the trim strip down to the base of the door are chrome or stainless coverings. They appear to be glued on but are not really flush to the door. Are these aftermarket? Is there any way for me to remove them without screwing up my doors' finish beneath them? Thanks for your help.
