Brickers,
It is inevitable at some point. I will need to get another family car.
Currently, I own a 1989 240 DL sedan and a 1990 240 DL wagon. I really love the cars and have invested a good bit of time getting to know them.
I am not a fashion conscious guy. Truth is that if they were still making the 240, I’d buy another one. In the same color. I like the old rear wheel drive, tank-like construction. I do not want to be the guinea pig on the early year production run of any car, Volvo included.
And at least for one of my cars, I may not have the choice of buying used. You know. The wife needs a dependable, nice shiny car whose air conditioner works, etc.
So here is the real skinny for you, the true Volvo consumers:
Does the new Volvo product line stack up against the 240 line? Specifically, does the V70 wagon stack up against the 240 wagon? What are the chances that I would be driving a V70 wagon 13 years after purchasing it new as I am my 240?
Lay it on me. Is the quality as good or better? Will they hold up in the salt as good or better? Is the front wheel transverse mounted engine as good or better? Will the maintainability by hacks like me be as good or better? Is the value there or shoudl I stzrt looking (heaven forbid) at a Honda van?
Nothing good lasts forever. I value your input. Thanks.
