I have an M47 in my 1990 240. Driving on the freeway yesterday, I thought I had an exhaust problem from the manifold. It was noisey and it went with the rpms. Then I exited the freeway and in town in quit. I got home and it started up again on my driveway. I put my car on jackstands and checked the transmission fluid- it was full. I started the car again and something metal hit something and made a bell/ring sound. I increased the rpms and it stopped. What can make that bell sound? Is it transmission mounts going bad? Any ideas?
