I've been having trouble witht the '79 244. I replaced the alternator and was careful checking the wiring to it to make sure all was sound. I'd had some problems with a reman, so was kind of picky. It charges fine and ran fine for a few days. My daughter had it stop dead when she hit the dimmer switch to go to high beam. 'couldn't find a problem, but replaced headlight switch (lights wouldn't turn on and that was the cause). All went well for a few days again.
Tonight, daughter hit dimmer switch and car stopped. Car wouldn't start (no indication of power - it was dead), radio wouldn't work, heater fan wouldn't, either. In fact, nothing worked that depends on the ignition switch being on, but the headlights work. I left the key on and locked the car (a screw up that turned out to be ok). A family member was by the car and the stereo started to play. My daughter started the car with no problem, and when she hit the dimmer switch to see what would happen, the car stopped.
Does anyone have an idea what is going on? Any help would be appreciated a bunch.
Thanks in advance.
