Do i have an in tank fuel pump?? 200 1983

1983 244DL, Canadian Carbureated model.
The guy at the dealership is telling me i don't have an in tank pump becuase it's carbureated. Is this true? i haven't cracked open the tank yet, so i dunno, but both my mechanic and i assumed the in tank pump was dead. Is it "dead" simply becuase it's not there?
