crank sunroof operation problems 200 1984

Hello
on my 84 242 ti the sunroof is having problems closing all the way. It has smooth operation opening and closing for about 75% of the distance but when it gets close to closing the crank becomes harder to push and it will skip. I took the covers off of the track and the gear doesn't look to bad neither do the cables. My current idea is that the handle can be wiggled and seems to loose. It doesn't look like its holding the gear high enough compared to the cables?

Any suggestions are appreciated
