Some basic brake questions... 900

Some basic brake questions for my 1995 940 Turbo with ABS : 110,000 mileage. I think the front brake pads are about due for renewal.

1) The FAQ recommends choking off the brake hose when pushing the cylinders back... it says that just opening up the bleed valve isn't enough. Only problem I have is that my hoses feel way too brittle and hard to choke off without cracking them. I'd guess that a cracked hose might be more trouble than risking sediment into the line. What's the right approach?

2) Is it a good idea to flush the brake fluid at the same time as replacing the pads? Or is this too much work for all at once? Since I've never done the fluid flush, I was thinking since the wheels are off and the bleed valve is easily accessed... this might be a good idea. But I can't say I've read any posts about this.

3) How can you tell when the rotors need replacing? I read somewhere they're good for about two sets of brake pads... but I'm wondering what the symptoms are. I know how warped rotors feel when braking... but are there any symptoms for just worn out rotors?

Thanks!
