Odd overheating problems on my '83 200

Last week my 244 started overheating in the city... specificly when i take my foot off the accelorator the temp shoots up. As look as i keep giving it gas on the freeway it runs that the normal temp, but even at high speeds it will get very hot while coasting. The oil and coolant levels are fine, as is the fan clutch (i think). It has accually boiled over once... so i know for sure it's not an instrument problem. Untill about two weeks ago the car always ran cold, but several days before it started overheating it went on about 20 miles of fairly rough dirt road, 400 or so miles of 75mph highway and was being used to haul 7 people around phoenix... This car is a mule, and i dont want it to die on me now. Any help would be apreciated.
