Oxygen sensor swapping 3-wire to 1-wire... 200

Can I do it? I posted some questions last week about bad AMM checks. I got some good responses. Thanks again. I have since tested the O2 sensor on the same car ('84 GL sedan) and it appears to be "lazy". At idle, it sits pretty constant at .5 volts which is bad as I recall. Anyway, this car has a 3-wire heated O2 sensor. My other car, an '84 DL auto has a single wire O2 sensor. The AMM's are the same number. My plan was to take the AMM off the DL, which I know to be good, and put it on the GL. Now that the O2 sensor is bad on the GL, I thought I would switch those too until I noticed one was the heated 3-wire sensor and the other was the single wire sensor. (I thought the heated ones didn't start until '85?) It is my undstanding the heated O2 sensor is designed to help get the engine running in closed-loop control faster. If this is the case, I don't really see any reason why the swap would cause any problems, especially if it was only temporary. I was going to check the number on the CPU and FI computer too. If these are the same I should be fine, right?

Any input/thoughts/experiences appreciated.

Thanks, Ben

Note: The DL actually has the connector pre-wired for the 3-wire sensor but is not being used
