Engine Noise 700 1988

I just started hearing an engine noise, not an interupted noise, but a low rumble from the top front of the engine. At least that is where it sounds like it is coming from. I haven't had time to really investigate, yet.
I wanted to get some direction from the Brickboard on what to look at/for.
I don't see anything on the brickboard about camshaft bearings, but that is where the sound seems to come from.
I plan on investigating by using a screwdriver as a stethescope.
Give me some advice. I'm worried, quite honestly.
