Hi:

The Water pump is in this area and it will make a rumbling sound when the bearings start to go.

Use a mechanic's Stethoscope and nose around in the area. If you can't get a Stethoscope, use a long screwdiver or extension. Place it on the part in question, then put it to your ear. Be careful of any belts or moving parts.

I've diagnosed many noises this way.
