I am in the process of replacing the water pump in my wife's 87 240. I have an 84 245 I drive daily and an 81 245 I'm restoring. My wife is getting annoyed with me constatly fixing her car. We are carpooling until this weekend when I'm replacing the water pump. I'm praying that the engine did not overheat and the head got warped when she broke down.
She wants a NEWER car with a warranty. I can get a deal through work on two to three year old rental cars with full warranties plus an extra 12/12 unlimited with roadside assisstance. I've got to stay under $100 a month. This leaves me with a decision to make.
First is to keep putting money into my wife's old 240 and drive it forever.
The second is a choice between these former rental cars for about $100 a month:
2002-2003 Ford Focus
2000-2001 Ford Escorts (I don't like them at all)
2001-2002 Mazda 626 (which I do like and isn't the Volvo S40 based on it)
2001-2003 Dodge Neons
2001-2002 Toyota Corolla
2001-2002 Geo Prism (basically a corolla)
2001-2003 Kia (crap cars)
2001-2002 Chevy Cavalier
2001 VW Jetta (this may be hard to get for under $100 a month)
The only advantage is a warranty. None of these cars has a safety crash rating like my 240 does.
Decisions, Decisions.
