Ok I've learned the hard way that that Tremclad, Rust Oleum etc are useless. The cars I did with those would have been better off with the rust and paint scraped off and some grease over the spots. I have also tried professional body shops with "good reputations" and their work lasts a few more months than my driveway work. The best success I have had so far was with CarQuest etch primer.

So is there anything that works? I keep hearing about POR 15, but it is expensive and I don't want to get ripped off again. I have also heard it is very toxic and I have not seen body shops using it. Most of the high end shops seem to use Sikkens around here. Has anyone heard of "Rust Bullet"?

I have to touch up some spots on the 89. The cowl and wheel arches have some rust, and the paint is flaking off on the front fenders and in the license plate area. Its flaking off right to the galvanization. I have not seen that before on a Volvo. I also need to paint some replacement doors for my 84 (I don't want it to be a 3 tone paintjob).

I know I am asking a lot because I live in the Maritimes and the car is continually assaulted with rain, salt air, and road salt in the winter, but there has to be something that will at least slow the rust down.
