'91 240 Wagon fuel gauge is dead 200 1991

It just sits there, down at the bottom. Temp gauge works fine, gas gauge doesn't. Before I dismantle the whole interior to look at the sender, what's the best way to diagnose this for sure? Of course I'll first check fuses, and see if I have juice at the wire to the sender. But then what? And how to remove sender? Repair same, or replace?
