leaking valve cover? Costs, as well as 900

My mechanic diagnosed my car with a leaking valve cover, due to the gasket. He quoted me 630.00 for the job. This is a 1994 960 (6-cyl). Am I getting scammed, or is this a good deal like I think it is?
