Speedometer needle sticking at start up 200

As it has become warmer (Wisconsin) and more humid the speedometer needle on my '88 240 is sticking and not relecting my traveling speed when I first start up the car. A simple wack to the front of the cluster takes care of this but how can it be permanantly addressed? Is it a cleaning issue? Shorting?
