No start 200 1987

I have a 1987 240DL which starts after being jumped but dies shortly after the jumper cables are removed. I pulled the altenator, which has a built in voltage regulator, and had it tested. The altenator tested good at 2 different auto parts stores. The battery is new and has been tested also. Does anyone have any suggestions??
