Well, lo and behold today, my son slammed the right rear door, and the rear four speakers sprang to life !~!!! They then stop altogether again about 10-20 seconds later. Slam the door again --- they start again; then go out for no apparent reason, abruptly, not gradually.

I figure a bad wire or connection, probably toward the rear, given that slamming the other doors don't seem to get it going (I could just keep doing that, but it's hard when I'm the only one in the car)...

Anybody know where the wires run from the head to the back door and back deck speakers ? I see some wires under the plastic trim shield at the bottom of the rt rear door step, a red one and a black one, but I don't know if these are the speaker wires or not.
