Third Brake Light 200 1988

The Third brake lamp on my 1988 245 remains on, when I depress the brake pedal
the lamp goes off and the dashboard bulb detector light up to indicate a a bulb failure. Can anybody help me out with this one. The tailgate wiring harness was
replaced some time ago, so its not the usual wiring harness problem that is common with the 245 models.I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas
