could I have a bad FPR 900 1993

My '93 940 seems to run great until I turn the a/c on at highway speeds --- then I feel what seems like it cuts-out or misses. If I've got my head under the hood the engine idles great if I bring the RPM's up to about 2000 rpm, I get an occassional stutter or miss?? Help!! Oh-- I did just change the fuel filter (didn't help my problem) and found alot of crudd between the output side of the pump and filter. Thanks for any ideas!!
