Re-coloring the interior, how to prep the plastic? 700 1989

So I've decided I'd like to get rid of the tan interior on my car. My goal is to have everything done black (dash panels, grab handles, etc). Argh. If only finding 760s with black interiors was as easy as finding tan or charcoal interiors. Reading through the archives, it seems like the SEM Color Coat Aerosols with an initial coat of Plastic Adhesion Promoter are a good choice for painting the hard plastic pieces.

So far I'm left wonder what I should use to prep the plastic. I assume soap and water to get the most obvious gunk off. Then what? SEM has two plastic prep chemicals (Leather/Plastic and Vinyl). Which is appropriate for which material? The vinyl prep claims to soften stuff, the leather/plastic prep claims to not soften. Do I run the risk of melting anything if I use the vinyl prep?
