BW35 140-160 1972

I suspect that there is a problem with the BW35 in my '72 142E. I'm afraid that I may have damaged the transmission by mistakenly overfilling it with improper ATF (not f type). I have the cover off the bottom (drainplug is stuck closed) is there anything I should look for?
