Strut Spacer Question 200 1984

I am rounding up parts for my front suspension overhaul on my 180k DL. I was wondering about a spacer that is mentioned when replacing struts that were OE Gas.Mine were probably not! Will I need this spacer? My DL is about plain as they come. Dont know what it came with. Does it already have a spacer at the base of the strut cartridge? Just want to make sure I have all parts.
