Hopefully my next upgrade for my Brick will be to replace the stock camshaft with either the ipd VX or turbo performance one. I won't be doing the work myself since I have neither the tools nor know-how, but I'd like to get an idea of how much time and effort it took you DIYers who have already done this upgrade.
The reason I'm asking is because I proposed the idea to my dad tonight, and he seemed to think such a job would be extremely difficult and complicated, as well as expensive and long in duration. I know that the camshaft isn't exactly like changing the oil, but I also know that I haven't seen too many posts by Brickboarders who are in the middle of the camshaft swap and have gotten totally confused--everyone who has attempted it has apparently come out okay, in relatively good time. I also know that I'll be pretty satisfied by the upgrade, if I were to do it. How does it rank on the time/difficulty scale?
Also, if you've got any particularly good arguments as to why I, a teenage (only one more year!) driver, should be trusted with a "racing" upgrade (as he put it), I'd like to hear them. He seems to think that a camshaft swap automatically means I'm going to be trying to race it like a Porsche or Ferrari.
