Recently, I noticed that my ABS light was not lighting when the ignition was turned on (but car not running.) I was pretty sure the ABS was working because I could hear the ABS self test when backing out of the driveway, as well as had it kick in a few times during marginal traction conditions. I checked the 700/900 FAQ, but did not find anything such as "ABS working, no ABS light." I then did a search in the 900 archives, and found several posts discussing a broken trace on the circuit board in the instrument cluster, so I decided to take mine out to check for either a burned out ABS bulb, or a broken circuit trace. Removing the cluster was easy (94 940, no speedo cable.) (Just push the clip behind the little slots on either side of the cluster bezel, remove the 6 obvious torx screws and the bezel retaining clips, then the cluster pulls right out.) Checking the ABS bulb revealed that it was indeed fine. I took a very close look at the traces around the bulb, and finally found a bad trace (yea! this means that the ABS unit is probably OK after all!!!) See the picture for the location of the bad trace. I had to break off one of the white tabs on the bottom of the cluster to make the repair, however. I used a razor blade to scrape off some of the insulating paint around the crack, then used my conductive pen (purchased from "ACK industrial electronics" about 2 years ago for about $20) to paint over the cracked trace since a soldering iron would have melted a hole in the circuit sheet. (the second pic is of the repaired trace.) After letting it dry a few hours I reinstalled it, and the ABS light works now!!! I hope this helps someone.
