I have a 1994 940 GLE automatic, which changes the gears with a jerk. I've read about worn valve balls, but my problem is that although I've changed the tranny twice, the problem remains. Somehow it seems that the cause is NOT within the gearbox.
When I bought the car, second hand, the kickdown wire needed replacement (the hard gear change didn't appear due to the problem with the wire). Unfortunately the problem with hard gear changes only appeared after replacing the wire.
The agent claims the problem is in the valve body, and others have said that the problem might be with the governor.
When I asked the agent that if it's the valve body, then how come the problem has remained since the first tranny, they had no answer.
The hardest part is changing to 1st and 2nd gear. Adjusting the wire makes gear change a bit softer, but also weakens the kickdown a lot.
I'm stuck. If anyone has a clue, I would be very grateful. Thank you.
