OK still alternator - guess you are bored now 200

OK still sucky mechanic+dead alternator story. I bought a certified used alternator. Took it to Autozone, it worked. Took it to the mechanic, he installed it and he claimed it did not work. Is there any RATIONAL explanations for that? I'm going to kill this guy, seriously. He keeps on insisting that I should get a new alternator for only 250 dollars. OMGOMG.

BTW how much can I drive with a fully charged battery and a not really working alternator? I wanna get the car outta there.
