Hello,
Bought my first April 97, Swedish built Volvo S90 yesterday. Drove great on the test drive..no problems. Got it home and lo and behold when starting up again, the Auto Transmission stick did not want to budge, so my husband kind of lifted it to shift when the beautiful wood grain covering came off the mount. Inside we saw someone had gerryrigged the wiring. When we tried to start the car in Park, the gear shift locked. In order to be able to shift gears you had to turn the key to the 2nd position (where the electrical system comes on), shift gears to neutral and then start the car. Once the car was started a number of electrical features did not work. These included turn signal, power windows, and cruise control. However, when the key is in the 2nd position, the power windows and turn signals work fine. Does this make any sense? Will this be a costly repair? Specifically wondering what kind of part replacements within the Gear shift lever, and how much they cost. Any suggestions and helpful advice would be appreciated. (Engine/brakes, transmission are great!) Timing belt recently changed. For the price I got it I'm still very happy with it. Drives great!!!!!
Thanks
Newbie Volvo owner.
