I'm startng the rebuild of my 47 b20f and have a few questions about estimating the right work to have done. It had low oil pressure, but otherwise seemed okay, although I don't know what mileage it was getting or if it burnt any oil.

The cylinders are smooth and shiny, and there is no detectable ridge (with my fingertip) at the top. How do I determine if I need rebore or just a hone and rering, aside for buying and inside mic? The green book "piston fit" method with a strip of guage and a scale seems kind of crude.

How do I determine if valvestems are worn? Would they rattle in their guides?

Can you visually determine recession of valve seats? All the valves seem to be even height, outside the chamber wall.

Any specific questions to ask an engine shop before committing to working withthem?

Do I plastigage the main and rod bearings as they are now to see how loose they are? I can measure the ovality (ovalness) with a digital mic. I suppose that would tell me.
