Think I found the gas leak. . .could this be the culprit? 200 1987

Yesterday, after draining the tank and getting ready to drop it, I found a split fuel line above the front edge of the tank. The rubber line goes into a metal line, which then attaches to the fuel filler tube after a series of bends. The split was in the end of the hose, where it attached to the metal. The split didin't extend the the entire way past the metal. The rubber line then goes into a small, film canister shaped/sized thing, then to a charcoal canister and on to the intake manifold.

Could this have caused my leak? It wasn't a huge leak (a drop here and there), but I wouldn't think that liquid would flow through this tube. I'd like this to be the solution, but i'm not sure how realistic it is.

also, how in the hell do you get the clamp off the filler tube to take the tank out? That just seems impossible at this point.
