should I ? should I not? 200

I found a reasonable deal on a 244 recently, but the guy says it "smokes heavily". He also said he's "pretty sure it's water vapor", and not oil smoke I think (as if water vapor were a better thing I guess...?).

So... I'm trying to determine if this is a good or bad thing, and how fixable it might it be. The only thing I could imagine water vapor being from is maybe a crack in a cylinder wall, so cooling water is getting into a combustion chamber?

I'm not a mechanic though, so I throw this out there for anybody that might be able to clue me in on this.

Thanks!?

Sharon
