O/D again!? 900

Hello Brick Addicts!

A month ago I got in my possession 940 turbo 1992 (unfortunately with automatic transmission). But the car was (is) in excellent shape I couldn’t resist. I didn’t get used to automatic (had BMW 520 manual before), and therefore didn’t know how to check it out. So, later on I learned what overdrive is (or what it should be in my case).
When I have around 70-90 km/h and press the button the engine goes from about 2000rpm to almost 4000rpm and the turbo needle jumps from 10-11 o’clock to 1. It behaves like you shift from 4th gear manual to 2nd.
I’m this kind that I prefer to take care of my car myself, so thanks Lord I have found this website. According to what is provided here I have checked relay (placed new one-no change). The button at shifter is OK.
This Thursday I’m gonna do tranny flush and fill it up with Mobil 1 ATF. Along with this procedure I will check the solenoid. Can anybody tell me how to do it? I know, there is something about it in FAQ, but what I need to know is: can I disconnect OD solenoid wires at the transmission? what about the other end of the wire?
What do you suggest, should I take off the oil pan and replace or clean strainer , particle magnet?
Please! Don’t tell me that I have to replace tranny.

Thanks.

Robert
