All - just for 4th of July kicks I was looking at my ECU. There are a stack of gummed stickers on it with various part numbers. I'm trying to make heads or tails out of the whole mess just in case I ever want to replace it. Bear with me please. The topmost sticker is obviously applied at the dealer and has a handwritten dealer # and a box that says "changed @ 75,838". This sticker also has printed on it "Volvo part # 9179299-4". I'm assuming this ECU was replaced at one time (before my time) and this sticker documents that fact and the part number listed is for the sticker itself (not the ECU). On the ECU there is a small barcoded strip with the numbers "1200947225 92069" beneath the barcode. This looks like it could have been a tracking number in a rebuild shop. Back to the stack of stickers.
Underneath the dealer applied tag, the next sticker reads "Volvo Exchange 5003860-3".
Underneath that is the original printed plate that reads "Volvo 6842882".
What do I really have? A 5003860-3? Again this is for a 1990 745 GL non-turbo Regina - does that # make sense for my application?
Part numbers - why do they hate me?
