91 244 auto transmission won't shift out of park. Help! 200 1991

Hi all,

Well this car has been running great except for the occasional turning off after first starting it (I sometimes have to start in Neutral and gas it a bit in order to be able to shift it into R or D before the car turns off. It's fine once in gear) and today i was just thinking to myself how well it was driving.

Well, it may have been driving well, but now it simply will not shift out of park. I can't even push the shift lever button all the way in and the lever will not move out of park. I've tried shaking the car a bit (as much as I can with one foot out of the door) and moving the steering wheel but nothing works.

This wouldn't be so bad if my car were safely at home but it is in the covered parking at work (and they charge for overnight stays!).
