engine dies immediately after cranks over 700 1988

I accidently ran over a center divider/island with the front end of my 88 744GLE. There was a "thunk" sound plus scraping. Now the car starts but won't idle or drive. I know what I accidently did was pretty lame and I probably should have my license revoked. Any ideas why the car won't run?
