Tranny questions 900 1991

Well I bought my 1991 944t 2 weeks ago and whaddyakno the tranny died. Oh well... I was thinking though could I plug in an M46 or M47 or just put in another AW72. Has anyone ever converted a 940 to a manual and if so would it cost the same as putting another auto tranny in? any feedback would be great
