Engine Block Damage after overheat? Paging John Sargent. 700

'89 B230FT 140k miles

What typically happens to the exhaust manifold, iron block, pistons, and other lower engine components after a full blown overheat? Also interested in anyone's experience with damage to the turbo for the same reason.

The head has a crack in it so it definatly needs to be replaced. I've done headgasket jobs before on my '94 945T so it's not such a daunting task. Just afraid of what I might find when the head finally comes off!

Will be replacing the radiator, all hoses, heater valve, water pump, checking sensors...anything else? Front seals?

Lastly, what would be a ballpark price for a good used engine of the same vintage (or newer) with reasonable mileage?
