Posting this notice to inspire and thank the brickboard. Implanted a M46 stick in my 1989 740T and all went well- It shifts fine, OD solid, electrics and dash signals working good. I went with the hydraulic clutch and it is smooth and happy. I also changed the steering wheel to a smaller tighter 240 and it feels like a different car. Switched the Garrett turbo for the Mitsui small 04 turbo and as some of you have commented this is a great street turbo with quick spool up! I am glad I went to the trouble of switching, since some discouraged me. The engine is much quicker to respond and low end sluggishness (turbo lag) is greatly diminished. It is a great match to a stick M46 and is alot of fun powering through the gears. With ipd sway bars and fresh struts and bushings the car is quick, agile and fun to drive. The 4 cylinder is alive with a tweak of the Dawes Device. I rarely buzz past 5200rpm's so this turbo configuration is right for me.
So the end result is for not alot of money you can transform a 740/760 into aworthy and satisfying sport sedan that is very zippy. My project car cost $550 plus maitenance and upgrades total expenditure is about $3,000. In todays world this is a solid value, and fun to learn and do. Thankyou brickboard.
